Understanding 2011 Thai Flood Animation Movie
Explanation and understanding how technology and development had contributed significantly to this so-called 2011 Thai Flood Crisis. The animation video is in Thai language, with sub-titles in English. Basically put, water flows from the mountainous north had traditionally been absorbed by rice fields, forests, lakes, vegetation, jungles, -- but these areas have for years been progressively transformed into factories and housing estates for humans. In place are water dams to tap both the hydroelectric energy, and the water storage ability to distribute water during the dry season.
As we can see from the daily news report, factory estates have been inundated with flood water. There are hundreds of factories dotting the central region, from little light industrial products, to toys, to harddisk components, undergarments, car parts. Vast swathes of jungle had been cleared to build these factories. What was originally in the path of the flood water -- the jungles, plants, trees -- are long gone to “defend” the water’s rage.
